Soulkitchen Origin
Soulkitchen is a restaurant that I originally started in my Maryland home. The basic concept was to create a classroom in which I was an apprentice to myself. I advertised relentlessly with fliers that I printed up. This brought together old and newly acquired friends. The dinners were relaxing and informal. Guests came at staggered times bearing bottles of wine, desserts, smiling spirits. Cocktails and hour douvres were enjoyed until all of the reservations had arrived.; then the courses would start. People would take turns running and helping to plate food, and again in between courses to wash the dishes and utensils. It is nice to see how people interact with each other. For example, two friends I have known for a while, did not known each other until that night. However, they ended up taking turns washing each other's dishes. Or when someone takes it upon themselves to see to it that everyone has a beverage, I feel that the evening is a success.
When I would travel, I would take Soulkitchen on the road. I would take up a collection from the house I was staying, and cook a meal. Most of the time I would use the food that they already had, and just buy some tomatoes, onions, fresh herbs, etc. from the store or farmer's market. This is how the name of Soulkitchen has spread across the country and a few of its members have started their own Soulkitchens. This is another example of how food is a way of life and can't help but inspire and bring people together. This is why food is a passion of mine. Plus I love to eat... |
